Through this website, I seek to explore and analyze sociological theories and perspectives evident in my family providing personal experiences and stories shared by my father and brother.

There are two definitions of what a family is in the American Heritage Dictionary: one privileges the presence of children (biological connection), while the other highlights intimacy between two persons (affective connection). With this definition, the boundaries of which I placed on what I would consider as a family is aligned with the definitions provided by the American Heritage Dictionary. The US Census definition states that a family is a “group of two people or more( of whom is the householder) related by birth, marriage, or adoption and residing together”. My family applies to this definition as well because my parents are related to each other by marriage and my sibling and I are related by blood.
