Interviews

I decided to interview my dad and my brother because I really wanted to see how two individuals of the same gender could differ in their ideologies and concepts of family. I wanted to keep the gender variable constant and controlled so that I could really see how factors played into their similarities and differences. The other main reason I decided to interview my brother and my dad as opposed to my mom and my sister is because I realized I communicated significantly less with them than I do with my fellow female family members (as I tend to chat significantly more with my mom and sister). So I thought this was a great opportunity to learn more about my own family as I do completed this assignment.

My father’s name is Paul Junggap Huh and he is a 56 year old Asian American man who moved to the United States from South Korea when he was in 6th grade. He is competently bilingual in English and Korean as well as being bicultural. Paul continues to be the main father figure in our household providing financial income and care with his job as an associate for translation in Korean with the Presbyterian Mission Agency at Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). My mother’s name is Clare Kyunghee Huh and she is a 55 year old Asian American woman. She moved to the states through marriage with my father and thus, is not proficient in English. Clare is a stay-at-home mother who continues to be the main mother figure in our household.

My brother’s name is Daniel Huh and he is a 29 year old Asian American who was born in New Jersey. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics at Harvard University and a Master of Divinity in the New Testament at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary; Daniel is currently pursuing a Master of Theology in the New Testament. My sister’s name is Faith Yoon Huh and she is a 24 year old Asian American who was born in New Jersey. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Ancient Mediterranean Studies as well as in History at Emory University. Faith is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Religion, Old Testament at Yale School of Divinity.
