Career

Both my father and brother are bilingual and fluent in Korean and English. They both stated how they were very fortunate in holding the capability of speaking both languages. In each of their respective careers, they put to use the benefits of speaking two languages.

Father currently works as a translator at Presbyterian Church (USA), a national association of churches of the Presbyterian denomination. He mentioned how his fluency in Korean and in English allowed to pursue a career in which was passionate about. He “cares so deeply for the Koreans who have uprooted their lives to start a new one here in the United States and seek to find a community of their own. I want to help them not only find and build a new community but to also fuse the already existing cultures of America into their own Korean niche.” He went on to explain how this passion in his career was only made possible due to the unique circumstance of him living in two cultures and speaking two languages.

My brother is seeking to use his two cultures in ministry. As he is wrapping up his year at Princeton Theological Seminary with his masters of Theology, he is pursues to facilitate a ministry specifically for Korean American 2nd generation adolescents. His primary vocational mission is to minster to these 2nd generation youths who are lost in finding their identity in their religion because of their confusion of their identity in their cultures so that they may be fine tuned into missional Christians.
